General Laser Cutting FAQ
What is Laser Cutting?
A stress-free way to cut and/or engrave flat sheets of material precisely! The laser beam is directed through a nozzle to the workpiece. The laser then either etches, scores or cuts through the material.
What’s the difference between laser cutting, etching and scoring?
Cut – The laser machine will cut completely through the material.
Etching/Engraving – This is where the laser uses a lower power setting, which allows the material to make markings on the surface without cutting through the material completely. This is a lot more time consuming than scoring and cutting.
Scoring – This is where materials are marked with a shallow score line.
Will the material get burnt?
Depending on the material, yes it can leave a slight burn mark especially around the edges and sometimes it can’t be avoided. We can apply an adhesive tape for a small fee; although it’s not guaranteed total prevention. You could also give it a light sand to remove the burn marks or wipe it down with a soft cloth with a tiny bit of water.

Laser Cutting Design Setup FAQ
Are there size restrictions for my laser cutting file?
Our bed size is 900mm x 600mm, so it’s best to keep the design no bigger than 895mm x 595mm. Ideally, we suggest leaving around 2-3mm from the edge of your vector file. For large etched designs we need to allow room for the the machine to swing from side to side so approx. no bigger than 780mmx590mm.
Having said that our machine does have pass-through capabilities so there are certain long projects that we can do with our machine. Although some of our material is smaller than our laser cutting bed size. If your project is larger than our bed size the please request for a quote.
Can I use my own materials?
Sure can! Although we don’t recommend it. We use quality suppliers and know what works well with what we use. If we use your material, we cannot guarantee it will turn out exactly how you wanted it. You will need your material approved this by us. Once we check to see if we can and it’s possible, then we will send a quote.
